The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded a contract to GTI Energy Inc to install Lync's Aegis A air-to-water CO₂ heat pump water heaters at military bases Fort Gregg-Adams in Virginia and Fort Moore in Georgia, as part of an initiative to reduce energy consumption.
The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) was established in 2015 to integrate emerging commercial technologies into the U.S. military. This initiative aims to reduce the DoD's annual $4 billion energy expenditure, of which a significant portion is attributed to heating and cooling in its 300,000 buildings across more than 500 bases. By adopting Lync's Aegis A CO₂ heat pumps, the DoD is taking a significant step toward enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability in its operations.
Lync's Aegis A heat pump water heaters are one of the cleanest ways to heat water. Aegis uses CO₂ (refrigerant R744), which is non-toxic, non-flammable, and has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1. Aegis produces domestic hot water up to 170°F, even at air temperatures as low as -4°F, without the need for supplemental heat. Its high efficiency and performance makes it a wise environmentally friendly choice that delivers significant energy savings.
